The year’s biggest LOVE FEST!!!

There was a fantastic documentary on the radio yesterday about a man who has determined to do something nice for someone for a full year!  WOW!  I listened to examples of his kindness.  The reporter posed him as a modern day Robin Hood.  This man, of moderate means, was offering incredible gifts to strangers….box tickets for the local basketball team, a year’s pass on the local transit, a $500. grocery store gift card.  WOW!  I almost got lost in the fantasy of the gifts and almost forgot the purpose….to do something good for someone every day.  What a great idea.  I’ll take that challenge, though perhaps memorable in other terms.  A full year!  May as well get started! All My Secrets – Lesson 2 – The Recipe

After a thirty-five year career in the professional beauty industry, suddenly there was time on my hands.  At 55, I indulged my emerging passion, and went to culinary school.  WOW!  What an interesting position to be in.  The oldest member of the class, with no real intention of becoming a chef; I was having the time of my life.  While loving culinary, pastry was my real passion.  And here I am, ten years later, still remembering the biggest lesson -  learning the importance of following the recipe.

All My Secrets – Cookies 101 – Lesson 1

I remember my first attempt at baking.  It was bread.  I managed to kill the yeast, and of course the result was more like a brick than anything worth a schmear of  jam!  The best family comment?  “That’ll make a great doorstop!”  So, after the worst happens, look for help from those who have failed.  Since those very early days, I’ve made every mistake, and learned alot.  Take my advise!  Baking perfect cookies is not brain surgery!  What it is calls for attention to detail.
